Vorpommern

Pole of Tranquility on the Baltic Sea

Wide sandy beaches, natural beaches and hidden bathing bays with waves and meadows, shells and reeds line Strelasund, Bodden, Peenestrom and Stettiner Haff. The harbor towns and fishing villages in the Western Pomerania region spread maritime romance.

Wide sandy beaches, natural beaches and hidden bathing bays with waves and meadows, shells and reeds line Strelasund, Bodden, Peenestrom and Stettiner Haff. The harbor towns and fishing villages in the Western Pomerania region spread maritime romance.

Inland, rivers such as the Peene, Recknitz and Tollense wind through a landscape as if from times past. Avenues make up a large part of the country roads through what was at one time the Swedish and later the Prussian province of Western Pomerania. Behind the shady rows of trees you can see them: Old manor houses and castles , finely spruced up, or restored village churches and overgrown ruins. They are picturesque landmarks between traditional Hanseatic towns and dreamy villages.

If you are drawn out into the pure nature, you should visit the nature parks "Flusslandschaft Peenetal" and "Stettiner Haff" during your vacation in Western Pomerania - in autumn they become the playground of the impressive roaring deer and the trumpeting cranes .

In addition to the oases of peace on the sandy beaches, the bays and rivers of the region, a vacation in Western Pomerania also has a lot to offer in terms of culture and history: Artists such as Caspar David Friedrich were inspired by the warm colors and picturesque-romantic landscapes of Western Pomerania. The Eldena monastery ruins near the Hanseatic city of Greifswald were among his favorite motifs. Today, his paintings can be found in the Pomeranian State Museum in the painter's birthplace, while the museum in the Hanseatic city of Anklam is dedicated to aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal.

Of Brick Gothic and Landscapes that inspired Art

University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald

The Hanseatic city of Greifswald, including the monastery ruins in the Eldena district, was the birthplace of the artist Caspar David Friedrich and the inspiration for many of his most famous works of art. Those interested in art and culture can follow in the footsteps of the famous painter and, in addition to Friedrich's paintings, admire exhibits from prehistory and early history, the Hanseatic period, and Swedish and Prussian rule in Vorpommern in the Pomeranian State Museum.

Hanseatic City of Stralsund

As the oldest city in Vorpommern, Stralsund gained great wealth from international trade during the Hanseatic period. Even today, magnificent brick buildings are reminders of splendid times and have been protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. In addition to the architectural gems, recreational vacationers can relax at the Stralsund lido and the Sundpromenade, among other places - the latter is also ideal for leisurely walks and bike rides.

Ueckermünde Seaside Resort

Ueckermünde stands for a certain feeling of home, for tranquility, rurality and enjoyment. On a guided tour through the historic alleys of the tranquil little town, visitors learn about its varied history with Prussian, Swedish and Pomeranian influences. Families should look closely on the fairy tale trail from Ueckermünde's old town to the beach, where well-known figures from the Brothers Grimm adorn the path.

Mönkebude Resort

In the state-recognized resort town of Mönkebude, travelers can find peace and quiet and enjoy freshly caught fish. Long sandy beaches invite you to stroll and relax, while the surroundings along the Szczecin Lagoon can be explored on numerous cycling and hiking trails.

Gentle Nature Experiences, Relaxed Sailing Trips

Discover the Lagoon Area by Bike

From the bike, the diversity of Vorpommern can be discovered in a comfortable way. Miles of cycling and hiking trails along the Szczecin Lagoon lead past romantic coasts, natural lagoons, through lush forests and historic fishing villages - the best prerequisites for a varied active vacation.

Culinary Boat Tours at the Szczecin Lagoon

Culinary experience tours in the midst of nature: on board the Frisian freighter Twee Gebroeders from 1901, guests experience true moments of pleasure. Sunbathe on the deck of the century-old boat, listen to the wind and watch the flight of sea eagles and cranes over the Szczecin Lagoon.

Water Sports in Vorpommern

The waters in Vorpommern are not only suitable for leisurely boat trips: Along the Peene River, guests can indulge their thirst for adventure on a canoe tour, while fishing enthusiasts might make the catch of a lifetime on the Recknitz River with a little luck.

Horseback Riding Vacation

The wild and romantic nature of Vorpommerncan also be explored from horseback. Whether a ride on the beach, where the fresh sea breeze caresses the face, western riding or horseback excursions for beginners and those with saddle strength: Those who want to combine a Baltic Sea and riding vacation will be happy in Vorpommern between Brohmer and Helpter Berge and Peene.

On the Trail of Aviation Pioneers, Sea Creatures and Hanseatic Sailing Skills

Nature Park "Am Stettiner Haff"

For nature lovers the nature park "Am Stettiner Haff" in Altwarp is worth seeing. The typical pre-Pomeranian landscape of heaths, sandy and coastal sections is home to rare bird species such as peregrine falcons and lesser spotted eagles. On a canoe or raft trip on the Uecker River, with a little luck, otters can be observed up close.

OZEANEUM Stralsund

With the OZEANEUM Stralsund small and large visitors take a look into the depths of the sea. In more than 50 aquariums, there are numerous sea creatures to marvel at, and on the roof terrace of the museum, clumsy Humboldt penguins provide entertainment. In the OZEANEUM, on the other hand, you will feel tiny next to the true-to-life whale replicas.

Otto Lilienthal Museum

The Otto Lilienthal Museum is dedicated to Otto Lilienthal, the famous aviation pioneer from Anklam. The museum, which has won several awards, tells of the dream of flying in its exhibition and shows the development of aircraft technology as well as several replicas of Lilienthal's flying machines.

UCRA - the Pomeranian Cog

As a floating museum, the UCRA provides history buffs and boat enthusiasts with authentic insights into the Hanseatic era. On a historical sailing trip, the passengers themselves become crew members and can actively participate in the tasks on board under the instruction of the ship's crew.
