Out of the hustle and bustle and into the idyll. Enchanting landscapes and experiences that are simply rare in the city. That's why a country vacation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is just the thing. Here are five ideas on how to organize your country getaway in autumn.
1. regional markets and farm festivals
Autumn is the season for interesting markets and lively farm festivals. Delicious and natural products from the region and exciting events for young and old ensure that there is never a dull moment on a trip to the countryside. One of the biggest festivals is the Landeserntedankfest, which traditionally takes place at the beginning of October, always at a different location. Local agriculture is celebrated for an entire weekend, with a parade, farmers' market and lots of delicious food.
2. wild for game
On the subject of regional cuisine: this consists not only of fresh farm produce, but also of locally hunted game. In autumn in particular, we like things a little heartier, and a tender venison stew with cabbage and cloves or a hearty wild boar goulash are just the thing to make our stomachs feel like home. The carefully selected meat is supplied by hunters and foragers in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. In some farm kitchens, the chef even goes into the forest himself. It doesn't get much fresher and closer to nature than this. There are also a number of events throughout the fall that are entirely dedicated to the theme, such as the Game Weeks on Usedom or the State Game and Fish Days in Ludwigslust.
3. beach riding
Hand on heart: Who hasn't wanted to go for a romantic horseback ride along the beach? The enchanting Baltic Sea beaches in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are perfect for this. Along the 1,900 kilometers of coastline, several beaches are open to the gentle four-legged friends between October and April. The sandy rides far away from large towns and villages are particularly rewarding, as it is simply wonderful to fly over the deserted beaches on horseback. But as with road traffic, caution and forbearance apply.

Last but not least, of course, the abundance of nature is another reason to take a trip to the rural regions of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Whether it's the Mecklenburg Lake District or the wild and romantic Baltic Sea coast, there are beautiful plants to discover, cute little animals to watch and enchanted corners to explore. You can do this either on your own or, for example, as part of an alpaca hike, a guided canoe tour or a herb and mushroom hike. After all, fall is high season. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you pack your camera. Because then you can capture all the fairytale moments when the country presents itself in a thousand beautiful colors and take them home with you as a souvenir. Or as inspiration for your next vacation.

We will hike through the mysterious village deserted Koldenhof and learn how this landscape was formed. There you can look for visible remains of a village site in the middle of the forest. I tell about its history and about the discovery of this special place. We will see what the trees and plants tell us.
5. enjoyment in the Hofcafé
You won't get good food this fresh on your plate anywhere else. In the many farm cafés and farm kitchens in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the best agricultural produce fresh from the fields and stables is served up on the menu and then served to hungry diners. The selection is particularly extensive in the fall, as this is the harvest season for most crops. Some farms even offer a small program in the form of readings or cooking workshops. Our tasting tip: coffee or cocoa from the regional protein source lupins!
