Canoeing in the Mecklenburg Lake District

At Eye lLevel with Nature

Water hikers seeking peace and quiet will find unspoiled nature and relaxation on day or multi-day tours while canoeing in the Mecklenburg Lake District and on the surrounding rivers and lakes.

Water hikers seeking peace and quiet will find unspoiled nature and relaxation on day or multi-day tours while canoeing in the Mecklenburg Lake District and on the surrounding rivers and lakes.

Among the most beautiful canoeing areas in inland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are the Sternberger Seenland, the Feldberger Seenlandschaft, the Mecklenburgische Kleinseenplatte and the Warnow, Mildenitz and Peene rivers. Countless waterways and sparkling lakes enchant with unspoiledness and silence. If you are looking for solitude, you will find it here. Many of the flowing waters have only a mild current and are therefore also suitable for beginners.

Canoeing on the Peene and watching beavers building castles or a lively trip on the Warnow between Sternberger Burg and Klein Raden - everyone gets their money's worth here. If that's not enough, plan a canoe trip on the Baltic Sea. Due to the currents and winds, this is a real challenge but with impressive views of the coast and the salty scent of the sea at the same time also an insider tip for all water sports professionals.

Paddling for Adventurers

Combine your paddling experience with other sporting challenges such as cycling, trolley, hiking, trekking or hydrobiking and experience nature in a variety of ways. Of course, this goes a notch sharper: experienced paddlers go from inland waters to the high seas. Ocean kayaking on the Bodden and Baltic Sea, however, requires a little more in-depth knowledge of wind and current conditions. But we also have something very special: night paddling, winter paddling, dragon boat, barge, cutter or city paddling through Rostock City.

At the canoe entry points you can get on the water with your own equipment or use the service of the canoe rentals: Rentals with modern equipment, shuttle service and return transport. And if you don't trust your sense of direction, there are of course guided tours. Whether you are a beginner or a professional, a recreational paddler or an action addict, in any case: get out on the water!

Canoe, Kayak or Canadian Canoe - what am I actually riding here?

When we talk about canoeing vacations, we actually mean touring in a kayak or a Canadian canoe. That's right, there are two types of canoes, and both have very different characteristics. So, if you want to rent a canoe from a canoe rental in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, you have to choose between one of them.

The Kayak

Nimble, narrow and maneuverable - the kayak is the right boat for fast-paced whitewater trips. Originally from the Arctic, the kayak has evolved into a popular paddle boat for a sporty time out on the water. Whether on lakes, rivers, or along coasts, the kayak's maneuverability makes it easy to navigate calm and wilder waters with a little practice. It is propelled by a double paddle, which is dipped into the water alternately to the left and right of the boat. By means of luggage straps at the bow or stern of the usually closed canopy, some luggage can be taken along. If you want to go kayaking for several days, you should go for a hiking kayak, which has enough storage space for food and luggage.

While the classic kayak only offers space for one person, a tandem or triple kayak can take up to three people on a canoe tour through Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Friends, couples or small families can rent a kayak together and get ready for an exciting adventure along Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's watery lake and river landscape.

The Canadian

Mostly, however, the term "canoe" refers to the Canadian. It is wider than a kayak, has an open top and is propelled with a paddle. Propelling it is therefore more difficult and slower than a kayak and requires the strength of two or more people. The canoeists sit or kneel on boards, the blade of the paddle is fully immersed in the water. If there are two people, one canoeist paddles on the right, the other on the left. With three riders, the third supports the weaker side from the rear seat and is responsible for steering.

Thanks to its open canopy, the Canadian offers plenty of storage space for luggage. Therefore, the Canadian is particularly suitable for an extensive canoe trip, for example, through the Mecklenburg Lake District. Why not explore Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from the river with the Canadian and combine the multi-day tour with a camping vacation ? There is enough space for the camping equipment on the Canadian. Thanks to its tilt resistance, the Canadian canoe is also suitable as a vehicle for canoe trips for families - equipped with life jackets and sufficient provisions, canoeing becomes a fun vacation experience for young and old.
