Christmas markets
The Advent season – the pleasurable expectancy of Christmas
The first flickering of Advent candles signals the reappearance of Christmas markets in the North. The diverse Advent markets brighten up the season from the Baltic Sea to the Lake District, in Hanseatic towns with maritime flair, as a foreground to romantic palaces or in historic barns.
Tranquil Advent season
Surrounded by the quaint half-timbered houses and the festively decorated narrow streets of the Old Town, visitors can breath in the romantic castle atmosphere of the traditional Christmas Market in Schwerin. Against the backdrop of Schwerin Palace, the ice-skating rink in the Old Gardens creates a magical setting for a few turns on the ice.
Weekends in Advent
Artists and craftsmen fill barns in Bollewick and Ulrichshusen with beautifully decorated booths on the first three weekends in Advent and attract many visitors who stroll through them eating spicy "Pfeffernuss" biscuits.
Christmas Sprit in the hanseatic towns
The Christmas spirit also flourishes in the state's Hanseatic towns. Surrounded by the venerable gabled houses of Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund, the traditional Christmas markets here create a particularly unique atmosphere for visitors. Musical highlights, theatrical performances, carousels, roasted almonds and spicy mulled wine conjure up a festive mood.
