Stages: 5-6 days This tour could hardly be more multifaceted. In the breakthrough valley, the temperament of the two rivers Warnow and Mildenitz meets and provides a lively paddling pleasure. Afterwards, the gentle Warnow spoils you with a quiet tour to the gates of the Hanseatic city of Rostock.

Picture gallery

This canoe tour offers everything a demanding paddler's heart desires. It is recommended to start with an exploration of the Mildenitz above Borkow. Undeveloped natural bank zones along the course of the upper Mildenitz alternate in the first part of the tour. Steep banks, moor landscapes and "jungle-like" vegetation in and around the water ensure that you feel the sense of adventure from the very first paddle stroke.

Before the Mildenitz joins the Warnow, it leads across several small and larger lakes, through deep ice age gullies and rustic forests. In the breakthrough valley the temperament of the two rivers Warnow and Mildenitz meets and provides for a sparkling paddling pleasure. The breakthrough valleys of both rivers between Sternberger Burg and Eickhof are particularly fascinating. The water gushes through wildly romantic gorges with large boulders. An ideal hunting ground for the colorful kingfisher.

After that the Warnow changes its character completely. Broad and calm, it rolls through marshy meadows and pretty small towns towards the sea. If you want an encore after the tour, you should change into a sea kayak at Rostock's Mühlendamm and paddle to the Baltic Sea.

Those who only have three to four days should choose the short variant from the upper Mildenitz to Eickhof/Bützow to discover the whole variety.

Water profile

The breakthrough valleys of the Warnow and Mildenitz rivers are among the most beautiful, but also the most challenging sections. On about three kilometers white water character with tree and stone obstacles. Behind Eickhof the Warnow becomes a leisurely flatland river. During longer periods of heat, sections may not carry enough water. There are several transfer points on the first section. Behind the "Rothen See" the boat has to be transferred to a boat trolley for 300 meters.

Please check if this tour can be done, e.g. because of low water. Here you can find information about the water levels of Mildenitz and Warnow.
