The musical landscape between sea and lakes also offers a home to sounds ranging from Dixie to progressive. Tender beginnings for jazz from the Baltic coast already existed in the last years of the GDR. Since then, dedicated musicians have ensured that jazz is also taught and cultivated in the state's music schools. Several very good jazz bands with outstanding soloists have been formed here and have become well-known beyond the borders of the state. But not only bands and big bands regularly come together here, but also entire jazz orchestras. This state is too big for competition between musicians and events. That's why there are always new and interesting constellations here. Jazz in particular is open to experimentation.
Going beyond the borders
The right venues are also available: Away from the jazz festivals, there are many atmospheric clubs where the right jam feeling quickly arises. This has also been recognized by the international jazz stars who regularly tour the country - and are happy to return. Not entirely innocent of this pleasing development is the proximity to Scandinavia: the traditional jazz countries of Denmark, Norway and Sweden see Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for their jump into Germany. Connections to the large and active Polish jazz scene are also being developed.
