The guitarist's hands fly over the strings - sometimes fast, sometimes slow, while the singer coaxes the warmest tones out of her voice.
In retrospect, the creative process of CONSTANZE FRIEND and THOMAS FELLOW sounds like a lesson in quality songwriting, constant output and the intoxicating power of live performance. These are the characteristics that make the duo stand out in the age of the digital mainstream. After all, what began in Leipzig in 1991 has since expanded into the endless expanses of the global music landscape. Among connoisseurs, the name FRIEND N FELLOW has always been associated with greats such as Ray Charles, Al Jarreau and Luther Allison. The latter influenced the musical development of the duo in the 90s through joint performances. But it's not just their friendship and collaboration with Allison that has echoed beneath the surface of their own and adapted songs ever since. The style and instrumentation remain unusual, as the sound of a multi-piece band is transferred to two elements - guitar and voice. Both instruments are detached from convention and give themselves over to the melange of conception and intuitive joy of playing, both in the studio and in the concert hall. The result is a wild mosaic: sometimes jazz, sometimes blues, sometimes country - but always soul. In 2019, their sound is both virtuoso and intimate. After 28 years, the two thoroughbred musicians have long since become a well-rehearsed team. Their venues now include Beijing, Warsaw and New York. They have produced 11 studio albums, sold over 100,000 records and played countless concerts. The catalog of songs is constantly expanding and the earlier melodies also float through the spheres of the charming jazz clubs, theater halls and open-air venues that the two artists have left their mark on over the last few decades. They celebrate their live performance energetically and often decorate their interplay with a humorous commentary, so that space and time crumble into powder dust in the cosmos of FRIEND N FELLOW. In fall 2019, the 12th album "Characters" was released by Doctor Heart Music. In 12 self-written songs, FRIEND N FELLOW return to the acoustic blues. They tell 12 stories that are connected by their characters.
