The backdrop provided by around 1,100 listed manor houses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is worth a special look in itself. To mark the end of Caspar David Friedrich's anniversary year, the Schlösserherbst is presenting itself under the motto of Romanticism. From October 19 to November 3, 2024, exciting palace and park tours, top-class concerts, fascinating exhibitions, romantic readings and numerous culinary events will take place in the venerable palaces and parks. Accommodation options in stately hotels and guesthouses round off the offer.
Autumn is also the time of the stars. In many places in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, light pollution is so low that the Milky Way is visible. The Mecklenburg-Switzerland and Lake District regions are so sparsely populated that the stars can be easily observed after sunset under a cloudless sky. A deckchair in the castle park with a blanket and a hot drink is just the right place to look up at the sky.
The opening at Ludwigsburg Castle in Western Pomerania
The 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich on September 5, 2024 marks the highlight of this year's celebrations surrounding the most famous painter of North German Romanticism. Just a stone's throw away from Friedrich's birthplace of Greifswald is the Ludwigsburg Palace and Estate. One of Friedrich's companions was born here in 1778: the officer, painter and educator Friedrich August von Klinkowstr. who repeatedly received visits from his Wolgast painter friend Philipp Otto Runge at Ludwigsburg. In the fall of 2024, the first construction phase of the fundamental renovation of Ludwigsburg Palace will be completed.
The opening ceremony on 19 October from 1.30 pm will take place with this (preliminary) program:
- Reading from historical letters by C.D. Friedrich, Otto Runge and F. A. Klinkowström with distributed roles, accompanied by appropriate music
- Guided tour of the building site with the Ludwigsburg Palace and Manor Association
- Exhibition of works on the Ludwigsburg Palace and Estate and Romanticism, curated by the Pommersche Künstlerbund e. V.
