Many of the approximately 1,100 listed manor houses in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern provided an impressive backdrop. To mark the end of Caspar David Friedrich's anniversary year, the Schlösserherbst festival presented itself under the motto of Romanticism. Exciting palace and park tours, top-class concerts, fascinating exhibitions, romantic readings and numerous culinary events took place in the venerable Gemäuern. Accommodation offers in stately hotels and guesthouses rounded off the experience.

Autumn also invited visitors to go stargazing. The low light pollution in the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Lake District regions made it possible to see the Milky Way in the cloudless sky. A deckchair in the castle park with a blanket and a hot drink provided the perfect spot for stargazing.

The opening at Ludwigsburg Castle in Western Pomerania

The 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich on September 5, 2024 marked the highlight of the celebrations surrounding the most famous painter of North German Romanticism. Ludwigsburg Palace, near Friedrich's birthplace of Greifswald, played a central role. The opening ceremony took place here on October 19 from 13:30 with a reading of historical letters, a guided tour of the building site and an exhibition on Romanticism.

The opening ceremony on 19 October included the following program:

  • A reading from historical letters by C.D. Friedrich, Otto Runge and F. A. Klinkowström with musical accompaniment
  • A guided tour of the building site with the Förderverein Schloss- und Gutshofanlage Ludwigsburg e. V.
  • An exhibition on Ludwigsburg and Romanticism, curated by the Pomeranian Artists' Association
  • .

Closing event at the Schlösserherbst 2024

On the evening of November 2, a romantic concert evening took place at Schmarsow Castle: The final concert was held in the Eickstedt Hall of Schmarsow Castle, one of the oldest manor houses in the Tollensetal region. Pianist Nadja Klafs and singer Stephan Bordihn alias „DUOPHON“ hosted the evening. The concert, entitled „The Landscape of the Soul - Between Deep Draught and Far-Sightedness“, musically captured C.D. Friedrich's favorite motifs.

Other highlights included a piano evening at Daschow Castle, a banquet at the Below half-timbered manor house, the Baroque banquet at Vogelsang Manor, a concert in the baroque hall at Vietgest Castle, a cookery course at Schmarsow Castle and various exhibitions, culinary evenings and concerts. Visitors experienced autumnal highlights in castles, parks, manor houses and manor houses from the Mecklenburg Lake District to the Vorpommern mainland and the island of Rügen to the Mecklenburg Baltic Sea coast.
