One of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's greatest treasures is its 1,900 kilometers of Baltic coastline. On its beaches people swim, dig, sunbathe and surf in summer. For all those who want to experience the highlight of horseback riding on the beach in the summer months, there are a few horse beaches and riding stables that make this possible. The most enjoyable time for horseback riding on the beach is between October and April. Then several beaches along the Baltic coast are open for horse and rider. It goes without saying that the riders must be considerate of each other and clean up any mess caused by the animals.
Seasonal beach riding
From late autumn to spring, beach sections on the island of Usedom in places like Zinnowitz and Trassenheide are open for horseback riding. Horse lovers can also enjoy rides through the Baltic Sea landscape in the Baltic resorts on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula with the old artists' colony of Ahrenshoop, Dierhagen, Prerow, Wustrow and Zingst. In some places beach riding is allowed all year round. Other communities have found a compromise to welcome horses even in summer: They invite bathers to their beaches during the day and horseback riding guests in the evening and early morning.
Year-round beach riding
In the Rostock Heath beach rides are possible all year round. Whether it is a guided ride or even beach riding on your own, take advantage of the vast mixed forest with reed beds, bogs as well as an extensive network of bridle paths and carriage trails, which here directly borders the Baltic Sea. It is a pleasure to ride out of the shade of the trees towards the open sea, into the very gradually deepening Baltic Sea.
Far away from larger towns, you will find beautiful, often deserted places. And because it's so good to plunge into the cool waters alone or just sit on the edge of the dunes for a while and let the sun shine on your nose, there is even a paddock where the horses can wait for their riders and catch their breath. Also in Börgerende and not far from Pötenitz near Dassow beach riding is allowed all year round at the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg.
Riding vacation at the Baltic Sea
The equestrian farm Stuthof offers beach rides through the Rostock Heath all year round. Between Nienhagen and Börgerende, the riding camp Börgerende also offers rides to the natural beach throughout the year. Especially between October and April, however, horse farms located near the Baltic Sea are happy to take their guests for rides to the beach. On Usedom, for example, there is Reiterhof Sallenthin or Reiterhof Brauns.

Depending on experience, the groups are divided into beginners and experienced riders. Hiking rides through the Baltic Sea landscape are also popular riding vacations at this time of year.
