"At that time, his first store was still called "Tuch-, Manufactur- und Confectionsgeschäft Karstadt". Here, Rudolph Karstadt introduced the business policy of fixed prices and cash payment, which had been unusual in the past. Karstadt maximized its profits by cutting out the middleman, purchasing goods centrally and buying its merchandise directly from the manufacturers.
The name of Krämerstrasse, with its many gabled houses worth seeing, refers to its former and current use as a shopping street.
