An exhibition by Ahmad Eskander Suleiman, born 1955
The artist narrates:
Ahmad Eskander Suleiman, born 1955,
is a Syrian poet, writer and sculptor who has lived in Rostock since 2014.
He has published two volumes of poetry, two collections of short stories and two volumes of an encyclopaedia of Syrian short stories known under his own name (Eskander Anthology).
He initiated several literary, free writing communities and, together with a group of intellectuals from Jableh, founded the annual International Cultural Festival of Jableh between 2004 and 2010.
This exhibition is his second in Rostock and is entitled "On the Wood of the Streets".
It is a poetic attempt to make visible the inner sorrows of a reader in a foreign world - while healing his mental fractures, he straightens painted pieces of wood, breathing new life into them by recycling them and giving them expression and meaning.
