The "Stargarder Land" area was added to the list of wine-growing areas in 2004. This revived a tradition and officially permitted winegrowing at the Rattey and Burg Stargard sites. The wine is marketed under the name "Mecklenburger Landwein".

On Friday, February 13, 2004, the Bundesrat (Upper House of the German Parliament) approved an amendment to the wine legislation and allowed the wine-growing area for table wine in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with the eleventh ordinance amending the wine ordinance. The "Stargarder Land" area was added to the list of wine-growing areas, making viticulture at the Rattey and Burg Stargard sites official. The wine can be marketed under the name "Mecklenburger Landwein".
Grape varieties are Ortega, Müller-Thurgau, Phönix, Huxelrebe, Regent, Pinot Noir, Portugieser. The varieties Spätburgunder and Portugieser are replaced by the grape variety Regent because they are too susceptible to frost.
