Since 2017, there has been a fish ladder in the Dargun monastery and castle complex, which comprises 90 steps and overcomes a height difference of 9.5 meters.
In 2017, the lake outlet of the Klostersee in Dargun was changed. The new weir installed regulates the height of the water level via a mechanical equilibrium system, without human interference. The intention is that in the future floods, as they have occurred in the past, should no longer occur. A fish ladder has been built downstream of the weir. As a result, the Röcknitzbach is ecologically continuous as far as Klostersee in accordance with the objectives of the European Water Framework Directive. This means that the fish species that see the light of day in the headwaters of rivers can swim downstream towards the sea without being hindered by weirs, signal boxes or barrages.
