By ICE to the Island of Rügen
The former Gingster Straße was renamed "Bahnhofstraße" after the construction of the Bergen train station. It is the central axis between the city center and the train station as well as the industrial area behind it on Gingster Chaussee. It is characterized by the set-back, villa-like buildings from the beginning of the 20th century and the smaller commercial and trading establishments located in the lower part of the street. It has been handed down that on July 1, 1883, at 2:40 p.m., the first train pulled into Bergen station on Rügen. The line Stralsund - Bergen was thus opened. The station building is shown on a postcard from before 1900. It is a listed building and was completely renovated in 2004 at a cost of around 9 million euros.
