Your journey along the part of the Baltic Sea cycle route in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern starts in the Bay of Lübeck. Prepared with bicycle bags, enough snacks and a bicycle in a good condition, you will be well equipped for your trip. Cyclists will pass undulating landscape of the Klützer Winkel to reach the quaint Baltic town of Wismar, which is just a few hours away from Berlin. The town itself is a well-known gem to German holidaymakers. From the historical downtown to the old habour the coastline leads bikes further away.

Trail cycling in Germany

The main Baltic Sea cycle route in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, stretching along the sea, is well maintained, easy and family friendly. With the sea almost always in plain sight, you can travel from Wismar along several beaches and the coast through the seaside villages Kühlungsborn and Heiligendamm with its impressing white architecture. Arriving at Warnemünde which is optimal located at the sea and not far away from the Hanseatic town Rostock you need to take the ferry to reach the forestsection Rostocker heide as well as the smal costal  towns. With their colorful, calm and beautiful atmosphere traditional villages like Wustrow and Ahrenshoop represend the romantic Peninsula of Fischland-Darß-Zingst.

The cycling trail is ideal for nature lovers, as it takes you through fields and small forested areas on the way, and only a few hours away are the Lake Districts and the islands of Rügen and Usedom.

Current redirection notes (April 2017)

A strong storm tide caused coast ruptures along the route. Therefore, the Baltic sea coast trail is currently closed at the following sections:

Börgerende – Nienhagen, Landkreis Rostock
Please follow local signage for “Westlicher Backstein-Rundweg”

Please take the local redirections serious. Due to invisible washouts further coast ruptures might occur.
