Zarrentin Monastery

Slavic rampart near Groß Görnow

Slavic castle wall - Menkendorf

The castle rampart near Menkendorf is one of the best preserved ground monuments in Mecklenburg from Slavic times. More than 1200 years ago, it was destroyed during a military conflict. Remains of the rampart still remind us of its outstanding dimensions.

The former Premonstratensian convent in Rehna is a place of peace and inspiration. Located in the middle of the Maurine-Ragedast region, the former monastery complex reflects the history of this region. Great concerts in the nuns' garden, contemporary art exhibitions in the cloister, treading water in the Kneipp pool and guided tours of the monastery garden are offered today in one of the largest monastery complexes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

In the 200th year of her birth, Alexandrine, Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, has returned to Ludwigslust. Riding a horse, she has stood since 2003 on the square that has borne her name for more than 150 years.

Fritz Reuter Stone

When Fritz Reuter passed through the Kalißer Heide on August 25, 1840, the day of his release from the fortress prison in Dömitz, he passed the crossroads Neu Kaliß - Neu Göhren, which later in his memoirs "Ut mine Festungstid" was symbolically significant for his life's journey.

Old paper factory Neu Kaliß

When the two entrepreneurs Felix Schöller and Theodor Bausch came to Neu Kaliß in 1871, they already had ambitious plans. They wanted to reform the paper mill, which was already producing high-quality writing paper at that time. A modern paper mill was to be built on the banks of the New Elde River.

Battlefield near Wakenstädt - Gadebusch 1712

The consequences of the Thirty Years' War were halfway over when Mecklenburg was once again the scene of battles between foreign powers. Sweden and Denmark, engaged in the Nordic War (1700-1721), met at Gadebusch in 1712 and ensured that the small town still has historical significance today.

The region of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district is very scenic. Above all, however, it can be experienced. Whether on horseback, by bike or on the water. In the field of active tourism there are many offers. Because for nature lovers this landscape is just right.

For horseback riding and carriage driving friends especially experienceable: the stud trail connects the state stud farm Redefin in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with the main and state stud farm in Neustadt a.d. Dosse in Brandenburg. 170 km on horseback to consciously escape from everyday life.

History and nature

The combination makes it. The preservation of old, historical stock by the integration of modern elements, is practiced successfully in many places. Some of these buildings are now used for other purposes and are also venues for concerts, performances and festivals.
