The narrow headland between the sea and the Bodden, with its shallow and steep shores, beach lakes, bays and dunes, is one of the most beautiful and varied landscapes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. A crown jewel of nature, strictly protected by the National Park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft.

Wind fleeces give this region its wildness and, even in the most peaceful summer, give a sense of how much the trees on top of the steep bank here struggle with the vagaries of nature in winter. Above all, painters and poets, scientists and thinkers appreciated the primitive nature. With brush and paint, in poems and stories, they captured the rough forces of nature on canvas and paper. Since then, great value has been placed on everything original here. New houses today still mostly have thatched roofs, smoothly plastered facades, strong paints and sometimes richly decorated doors - a paradise for architecture enthusiasts and nature lovers.

In spring and autumn, migratory birds in particular attract the attention of visitors. On many an evening, hundreds of thousands of cranes , geese and swans are on the move over the Bodden landscape - always a fascinating spectacle that captivates ornithologists as well as young and old vacationers.
