When the family goes on vacation, young and old alike have precise ideas - including ten-year-old Valea, her five-year-old sister Leevke and their parents Andreas and Evelin. But don't worry, no vacation wish remains unfulfilled between the Bodden and the Baltic Sea: From paddling to tinkering, from art to sport - the main thing is to have fun!

Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft: All the birds are already here

A wish from everyone

Vowls sing and reeds rustle gently in the wind. A concert of nature at its most beautiful in the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park. Andreas, Evelin and their two daughters like to be active on vacation. That's why we recommend the four-kilometre Darßer Ort circular trail. After a small forest with gnarled, old, but also fragrant pine trees, the trail leads along a boardwalk. The landscape becomes wider and wider, now completely covered in reeds.

»Look there, a deer!« Five-year-old Leevke points excitedly into the reeds, where a head with big ears keeps popping up. »No, that's a doe«, says sister Valea with narrowed eyes. Once we reach the next viewing platform, the animal puzzle continues. The view stretches far across the vast landscape of dunes on the coast. The Baltic Sea can now be seen behind it. »There is a gray great egret«, Valea is thrilled. She often goes bird watching with her grandfather, an ornithologist. A cuckoo, a white-tailed eagle and a chaffinch have also joined the list. Leevke is no longer quite so focused and tickles dad Andreas with a feather she has found. »Whoever sees a gray seal first wins«, he jokes. Now Leevke is also back at it with renewed enthusiasm.

The Experimentarium in Zingst

That hits like a rocket

A wish from father + older daughter

»Get to work!«, Jens-Uwe calls out to ten-year-old Valea and her father Andreas. And mischievously adds a »Make an effort« afterwards. The two of them don't need to be told twice. They set to work eagerly and with great concentration. From the materials in front of them, it gradually becomes clear what they are working so diligently on: a rocket. For almost 20 years now, the Experimentarium in Zingst has been researching, trying out and building whatever the materials and equipment have to offer. Young and old alike can put their creativity to the test at around 70 interactive experiment stations and workshops. Guided by Jens-Uwe Kock, the head of the Experimentarium. After an hour, the rocket is ready for launch. »It could fly up to 300 meters high«, remarks Jens-Uwe. Valea is awarded a rocket engineer medal and high-fives her father. If the family vacation starts with a rocket, then it will be a blast!

Stand-up paddling on the Bodden

Two lucky rookies

A wish from mother and older daughter

»How beautiful this is«, says Evelin, who is standing with her daughter Valea in a sports outfit on the shore of the Bodden in the small fishing village of Born on the Darß. They let their gaze wander over the shallow coastal waters: a father and his son are preparing an e-foil, a kind of surfboard with an electric motor. It's certainly a great way to float over the water - and the two of them also have a kiteboard with them. Behind them, a couple push their inflatable catamaran into the water and slowly chug out onto the Bodden. They have to keep dodging youngsters who are gaining their first windsurfing experience. The shallow water and the almost constant wind make the Bodden a popular water sports area.

Evelin and Valea are now also getting on the board. Mother and daughter share a common hobby: stand-up paddling. That was also their big wish for the vacation. They were really happy that they didn't have to bring any water sports equipment with them to Fischland-Darß-Zingst. The equipment can be rented in many places. Like here at the Kitesurf & Kanu Born water sports center. They skillfully push their boards into the water, briefly find their balance standing up and paddle away happily. »Great weather, beautiful nature, and the shallow and calm water here on the Bodden is just super«, is Evelin's conclusion after the trip. Water rat Valea has already planned her next vacation. Where to? Here to the Bodden, of course - with daily stand-up paddling.

Galleries and art workshops in Ahrenshoop

The art of togetherness

A wish of the parents

Evelin and Andreas have been planning a day in the artists' village of Ahrenshoop for a long time. Visiting galleries, refining their own art in a workshop or learning something new - without the children. Time for two. The two of them are exactly right in the pretty Baltic seaside resort. For more than 100 years, artists have been fascinated by the light and the location of the small fishing village with its thatched cottages.

Artists can admire the numerous galleries and take creative courses.

Hand in hand, they stroll through the Kunstkaten gallery, one of the älst galleries in northern Germany, before attending a very special appointment. The couple have booked a workshop with Nana Vossen at Galerie Schnepel III. Evelin's long-cherished wish: to refine her drawing skills. Andreas would like to try his hand at sculpting. »Wood is my material«, he says.

Artist Nana Vossen lives with her husband Rüdiger, also an artist, in the Baltic seaside resort of Ahrenshoop. Ceramics, wooden statues and all kinds of other works of art are displayed on the driveway. Mann Rüdiger also greets the two with a warm smile. He comes from the pond, easily recognizable by his smeared white hands.

»I'll tell you a trick«, says Nana Vossen, »take a deep breath and draw the line as you exhale. That way it will be straight.« Evelin is already in the middle of her four-hour workshop. First exercise: hatching. The aim: to portray the apples in the bowl in front of her. Andreas is also enthusiastic and gradually forms a fish on the surface of the old piece of wood in front of him using a rubber mallet and chisel. »You're really good at it«, praises Nana Vossen. You can tell she loves teaching. Workshops on drawing, painting, collage or material play can be booked with her. She also enjoys working with children and families. »Next time we'll bring the children with us«, Andreas is certain.

Adventure day with the Bernstein Riders

A dream team

A wish of the sisters

Leevke is blissfully happy – and totally into it. She strokes her pony Blondie's hair lovingly again and again. The five-year-old has been looking forward to this the whole vacation: the adventure day at the riding stables. Sister Valea is also beaming. Her pony Asterix is jet black. Christine Röver comes out from behind the stables with the grooming kit and riding helmets. The young, resolute woman is training to be a tourism and leisure manager at the Bernsteinreiter riding stables on the outskirts of Ribnitz-Damgarten. The ultra-modern facility fulfills all the vacation dreams of horse fans young and old. Leevke and Valea are already blown away. They groom Asterix and Blondie. But before the horses rest too much, Christine arrives with the saddles. Here we go. Out into the countryside – guided by Christine, of course, who holds the reins in her hand.

»Look, that horse back there has colorful ears.« Leevke is still out of the house when her parents pick up the sisters. She points to a horse with colorful fly protection and leaves nothing uncommented on the way along the paddocks and the playground. In between, she also talks about her experiences. »We went for a ride across the wide fields and on the way back we stopped at a horse playground.« She hops happily in front of her parents and Valea, as if she were now a pony too.

»Our vacation couldn't have been any better,

says father Andreas as all the family members stroll to the parking lot with a satisfied look on their faces, »we have experienced so much more on Fischland-Darß-Zingst,

»And tried out new things,

adds mother Evelin with a smile. Heart's desire fulfilled! For everyone!
