The folk festival with historical spectacle in the heart of the Hanseatic City of Stralsund
The city festival with history
From July 24 to 27, 2025, the historic old town of Stralsund will be transformed into a lively stage for one of the largest and most atmospheric festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: the Wallensteintage.
The traditional town festival commemorates the successful defense of Stralsund against the troops of the general Wallenstein in 1628. Sounds of bagpipes and drums, the smell of fresh garlic bread, grilled bristle cattle, cherry beer and mead, amazing jugglers, fire-eaters and acrobats, there is laughter, dancing and celebrating. Every year, the Wallensteintage festival from the Alter Markt to the Hansa-Wiese takes you back to times long past with a historical spectacle and a warm atmosphere.
The traditional parade in historical costumes on Friday 25 July at 16:00 and the gruesome plague procession on the same day at around 22:15 are undoubtedly among the highlights of the Wallensteintage. Don't miss the impressive baroque firework display against the historic backdrop of the town hall on Saturday at 23:00.
But the Hanseatic city has more to offer than just history during the Wallensteintage. A colorful merchant route from the old market down to the harbor invites you to stroll. Cozy beer gardens with live music or the Wallenstein carnival in the harbor for all fun-seekers - there is something for everyone. A festival not to be missed!
