Sound collective on the way to the Zappanale
On July 19, 2025 at 8 pm we have a special cultural treat on site.
The live band The Dorf will be playing one evening before their performance at the Zappanale at the Alter Pferdestall Fahren.
The Dorf auf dem Dorf, a sound collective. Loud, tender, chaotic, anarchic, but also very democratic - simply a live experience.
"this is not a band - it's a village"
The Dorf is a social sculpture that was created in 2006 and has been constantly changing ever since.
Over the years, around 80 musicians have helped shape this orchestra, which performs at concerts with around 20 people. The Dorf functions like a flock of birds heading south - with an extremely efficient inner orientation and a clear goal in mind - a tree on which everyone can chirp together. Very heterogeneous from the start, self-organized swarm intelligence with energy and decibels.
A unique communication culture has formed, which is the real secret of this band, based in the Ruhr area. The Dorf is a living organism that is constantly mutating in new directions. Not a typical orchestra and not a typical big band.
Their stylistic cornerstones are jazz, krautrock, improvisation, punk and new music, but decidedly non-idiomatic, discontinuous but consistent - entertaining but complicated - everything you might expect from art. The Dorf is a decidedly live band - with more than 300 concerts to date, many of them at international festivals.
This year they will once again be playing at the Zappanale - an annual multi-day music festival in Bad Doberan, dedicated to the composer and musician Frank Zappa. And we are honored that The Dorf will be playing a concert here with us the evening before.

This cultural treat can be experienced on July 19, 2025 at 8 p.m. in the lovingly restored old horse stable Fahren (outside if the weather is fine). When the registered cultural association Alter Pferdestall Fahren e. V. is not using this idyllic location for concerts or readings, it can be hired for weddings, family celebrations, company events or as vacation accommodation with spacious rooms for groups and/or families.
Fahren is conveniently located just 3 km from the Zurow highway exit: off the beaten track in the countryside, but still close by.
