The big shindig. Celebrating festivals in the East
Photographs
Partying, dancing, drinking: "Schwofen" has always been a welcome outlet for pent-up energy. People meet spontaneously or organized, in private or unofficial, often specially created places. Every country and every society has its own recognizable peculiarities. Even, and even more so, under restrictive conditions such as in the GDR.
Beyond all the clichés of the grey East, the presentation shows a highly surprising piece of everyday culture - lively, colorful and wonderfully diverse.
This exhibition is more than a museum document of remembrance. It brings together photographers who were among the best and best-known in the GDR. The quality of their work deserves to be recognized, preserved and disseminated across borders - an important, often underestimated part of our shared culture. And it is to be celebrated here.
After stops at the Jena Art Collection (exhibition organization), the Brandenburg State Museum of Modern Art and the Kunsthalle Rostock, the exhibition was also able to be shown at the Neubrandenburg Art Collection.
