A village in a place and time not too far removed from our own. As the daughter of an outsider, Skalde (Mathilde Bundschuh) has always strived to overcome the stigma attached to her mother Edith (Susanne Wolff) and be accepted by the village community. While her desire to belong has driven mother and daughter apart, Skalde has become the village headman's protégé and a respected member of the community.
