SOMMERPAUSE . Vernissage to the exhibition . Christina Pohl (Painting) & Gertraude Bauer (Sculpture)

We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition SOMMERPAUSE by the painter Christina Poh and the sculptor Gertraude Bauer in the presence of the artists.
The laudatory speech will be given by art historian Mara Maroske. The double bass player Matthias Bauer will accompany the vernissage with music.

Christina Pohl

"I have long been interested in the house and garden as symbols. Concrete visual experiences are often the trigger, but I am interested in the condensation of an impression into general validity. I am particularly interested in the formal aspects of over-formed nature, the use of ornaments and elements of trivial culture. The representational nature of the pictures is broken by reduction and stylization; they often appear laconic, but also explore the borderline to ironization, alienation and kitsch. Despite their brittleness, they convey a sensuality and opulence, are poetic and celebrate the visible world with a quiet sense of humor. They are characterized by bright colours. The pictorial objects are usually clearly outlined and contoured with a lineament.
Other fields of activity are printmaking, especially letterpress printing and collage."

Gertraude Bauer

"I work exclusively with figurative sculpture.
My aim is to track down the expressive power of human appearance and translate it into a valid three-dimensional form. I prefer to work with natural materials such as wood and stone. In dealing with the initial format, texture and effect of the material, the original composition is questioned and modified until the desired expression is achieved. The work process is finished when the idea is able to assert itself in space and take effect as a sculpture."
