Symphonies and concertos of the 18th century by Johann Baptist Vanhal, Johann Friedrich Fasch, Henri Joseph Rigel, Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer and Georg Philipp Telemann

Monday, 28.07.2025 at 20.00 in the Lukaskirche in Graal-Müritz

The Ensemble Amadeus was founded in 1997 by Normann Kästner (Dennheritz). Originally consisting of eight musicians, it has now matured into a well-known and respected ensemble in the region of south-west Saxony with around 35 active amateur musicians. With over 20 concerts a year, it is the most active amateur orchestra in the region.

The ensemble's musical profile focuses on the music of the 18th century, particularly the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. However, the ensemble also regularly surprises its audiences with music by unknown composers. For example, the ensemble performed compositions by the concertmaster of the Dresden court orchestra, Johann Georg Pisendel, and in 2018 released a double CD with world premiere recordings of 11 symphonies by Carl Stamitz, one of the most prolific composers of the Mannheim School, which was nominated for the ECHO Classical Music Award.

The orchestra regularly performs with renowned regional and national soloists, such as the alto David Erler, the brothers Markus and Pascal Kaufmann (organ/piano) and Jakob Spahn, principal cellist of the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich. Concert tours have taken the ensemble to various regions of Germany, Poland, Salzburg and three times to Italy.

Since 2015, the ensemble has been organizing its own summer open-air concert in Dennheritz on a four-sided farm under the title "Klassik auf dem Land", which regularly attracts over 1,000 visitors over three days. In 2023 and 2024, the ensemble took part in the cantata project "Bach 300" and was a regular partner of the Bach Choir at Leipzig's Nikolaikirche. In 2024, Ensemble Amadeus took part in the Saxon Orchestra Competition with excellent results and was delegated to the German Orchestra Competition in Mainz by the Saxon Music Council. The orchestra will face the jury there on 15.06.2025.
