Under the title "Imprisoned by the State Security", Dr. Steffi Brüning, director of today's Rostock Documentation and Memorial Site, will speak about the history and present of this historic site on July 2 from 7:30 pm in the "Mühle" Kröpelin.
The remand prison of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) in the Rostock district was built at the end of the 1950s. Not visible to outsiders, it was located on the grounds of the MfS district administration. From 1960 to 1989, the Stasi imprisoned around 4,900 men and women there, mainly for political reasons. These included, for example, the criminal offenses of "agitation", "making anti-state connections" and, increasingly, "attempted escape from the republic". The MfS remand prison had around 50 cells on three floors. The detainees had to endure an average of five to six months of pre-trial detention with constant interrogations and severe isolation until they were formally sentenced by a court and transferred to a penal institution.
We then watch the film FLUCHTWEG OSTSEE. The MR. MOVIE short film "FLUCHTWEG OSTSEE" by Justin Metelmann and Florian Wolf depicts a fictional escape story of two young people based on historical events. The film refers to the former surveillance of the GDR's Baltic Sea border by the Coastal Border Brigade and the Ministry of State Security.
Two young people are discriminated against by the "GDR system" because of their personalities. Kathrin, played by Marlene Prüter, is denied the opportunity to study and Ralf, played by Jaron Elbrecht, is no longer allowed to take part in international competitions as a competitive swimmer. They decide to make a daring escape across the Baltic Sea. The theme and content of the film are closely linked to the region where it was produced. The filming locations are all in the immediate vicinity of Bad Doberan and Rostock. In addition to well-preserved historical locations, such as the memorial site of the former Stasi detention center in Rostock, scenes also had to be recreated.
