Ramona Czygan

Ramona Czygan lives and works as a freelance artist in Greifswald.

Her works stand in the direct field of tension between photography and painting. The starting point for each work is always a photograph, either created in the classic way with a camera or exposed directly with natural materials on light-sensitive surfaces. To create the negative material, she prefers to work with old analog cameras (usually pinhole cameras), hand-painted filters, overlays and the like.

To develop the positives, she almost always uses the historical photographic process of cyanotype, whereby she exposes on various soft surfaces such as handmade paper or fabrics. Her visual language ranges from the representational to complete dissolution. The photo can remain as a whole, quiet image or be moved into complete abstraction with color, gold leaf, collage or embroidery. In contrast to this, Czygan's works also make use of modern printing techniques, entirely subject to the necessity of the image. For a good 15 years, the subject of the landscape has been the focus of her attention. There is often something past or backdrop-like about the photographs. The deserted landscape becomes the projection surface of an unreal state or an enraptured emotion. The photographic technique of the cyanotype supports this idea through the strong reduction of details and the monochrome, blue colors. The motifs detach themselves from reality and strive towards an unsettling calm. For her, the appeal of a painterly visual language within photography lies in pointing beyond the representational, not in capturing the concrete of the moment, but in capturing the apparent, the ultimately intangible. It can therefore only come to an approximation, since the fascination of the motif lies in its detachment.

Exhibition series CORNER KICK_OFF: [Eckanstoss]

The exhibitions at KUNSTraum SCHWERIN focus on a different theme each year. In 2025, the KUNSTraum SCHWERIN is showing the exhibition series CORNER KICK_OFF: [Eckanstoss] with five exhibitions.

The layout of the exhibition space with its open glass fronts on the corner of Platz der Jugend invites visitors to encounter the contemporary art on display. In 2025, there will be various presentations designed to encourage visitors to engage with language and form in a direct encounter with contemporary art. The boundaries between inside and outside will blur, art will be brought into the public space at / in the corner and will attract and inspire locals, guests and art lovers alike. As a "meeting place for art", the KUNSTraum SCHWERIN presents diverse, surprising and exciting exhibitions that are always looking for new inspiration.

The KUNSTraum SCHWERIN

The office of the Berufsverband der Bildenden Künstlerinnen und Künstler in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is located at Goethestraße 15 on Platz der Jugend in Schwerin. The KUNSTraum SCHWERIN is connected to the BBK M-V office: KUNSTraum SCHWERIN, an exhibition space for contemporary visual arts and a place for cultural encounters and exchange, opened in Schwerin in 2021.

In the conception of the exhibition program, the BBK M-V follows the basic principle of "art in urban space". Open, communicative and inspiring, KUNSTraum SCHWERIN sets a new aesthetic and cultural benchmark in the State capital Schwerin with its exhibitions of contemporary art, the diversity of artistic forms of expression and various event formats.
