In this concert, he will be performing contemporary musical history.
The most important composer of the 17th century, Samuel Scheidt from Halle, was music director of the three large churches in Halle. With his compositional work, he made a significant contribution both quantitatively and qualitatively in the vocal and instrumental fields.
As the son of the town piper of Eilenburg, Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow learned to play many of the wind instruments common at the time and was a pupil of the later Thomaskantor Schelle and Petritz, cantor of the Dresden Kreuzkirche.
He himself worked as organist at St. Mary's Church in Halle. He composed an enormous number of church cantatas, which were considered key works of their time.
Georg Philipp Telemann was one of the busiest musicians and composers. His travels took him to France, Italy, Poland and Moravia. The musical inspiration he received there found its way into his 3600 works. This makes him one of the most productive composers in music history. The agile Telemann even published several of his works himself.
Johann Sebastian Bach is probably the most famous musician in the world. He was a violinist, harpsichordist and organist. And above all, he was a gifted composer. His work as Thomaskantor and music director in Leipzig is legendary. Everyone knows the pieces or melodies he composed, but listeners are always surprised and moved by the concerts.
