Festive baroque music by Georg Ph. Telemann and Georg Fr. Händel - preceded by an exciting organ tour in the gallery of the 175-year-old Kaltschmidt organ in the village of Wis
The epitome of "Pomp & Splendor + Baroque Elegance" is the name of the glamorous "Spazier" summer concertof the Duo Vimaris from Weimar itween the churches of Wismar and Strasbourg.
In the village church Wismar/ Uckermark and the Marienkirche Strasburg/ Uckermark on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 4 p.m. (Part I) and 5:15 p.m. (Part II), they will exclusively perform music by the brilliant 18th century masters Georg Ph. Telemann and Georg Friedrich Händel. To put it bluntly, Telemann, who was born in Magdeburg, was much more popular than J. S. Bach due to his captivating elegance. Handel from Halle/Saale is England's greatest composer! The heavyweight baroque master not only satisfied Britain's urge for festive music with his fireworks and water music, his opulent oratorios in St. Paul's Cathedral were reason enough for Londoners to enthusiastically carry him on their "silver platter". Telemann also held the musical fortunes of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in successful hands. Among other things, sonatas, fantasies, variations, arias and cantatas by both great composers can be heard with a highly recognizable effect. Mirjam Meinhold performs on the alto recorder and sings soprano (as a member of the opera ensemble of the German National Theater Weimar). Wieland Meinhold, university organist from Weimar, can be heard on the two Kaltschmidt organs. A generous donation from the heart is requested at the end of each performance. Beforehand, at 3:15 p.m., organ fans can enjoy a guided tour of the "Queen of Instruments" in the gallery of the Dorfkirche Wismar: Dr. W. Meinhold will explain the "Queen of Instruments" up close to anyone who is interested. Right next to the console of Kaltschmidt's 175th anniversary organ, visitors have the opportunity to learn about its technical refinements. Visitors are always captivated by these entertaining organ tours.
