On the 8 km excursion through the park and the pine forest along the Breeger Bodden, a certified mushroom guide will tell you everything you need to know about the local mushrooms. At some points you will then have the opportunity to go foraging yourself and put your newly acquired knowledge into practice. The finds will then be discussed together at the starting point at around 1 pm. Registration: Required up to one day in advance by telephone on 038391/311 (Breege-Juliusruh Information Office)!
We meet at 9 a.m. on the stage in the Juliusruh spa gardens and introduce ourselves to each other: Eckhart Berger mushroom expert from Binz, Lutz Spindler hobby mycologist from Breege and the other participants in the group. Using fresh mushrooms brought along, we will show the important distinguishing features, compare the edible mushrooms with their poisonous doppelgangers and give tips on finding, collecting, cleaning and preparing them. We answer questions about useful mushroom literature, identification apps on smartphones and popular YouTube channels. Then we'll give you an overview of the tour route and off we go into the spa gardens. You will be surprised at the great variety of species that such habitats can produce. In the search area, the attentive collector with a little luck and expertise will find campions, various russulas, pine mushrooms, summer boletus, witch's bolete and many other edible species. The potentially deadly poisonous green button mushroom also has several locations in the spa gardens. Anyone who collects mushrooms for food should be able to identify them clearly, we will show you what characteristics you need to look out for.
Don't worry if you are still a beginner, we will be on hand with help and advice.
After the leisurely walk around the park, we head towards Breeger Bodden. The predominant pine forest there is known for its good stock of chestnut roe deer (provided the forest floor has received enough precipitation)
What should you bring?
The most important things to bring are sturdy shoes, closed clothing against mosquitoes and ticks, mosquito spray and provisions for a short break.
If you want to take mushrooms with you on your own responsibility, then bring a small knife, a basket (a cloth bag / fruit net can also be used if necessary) and possibly a brush for cleaning mushrooms.
The length of the excursion is approx. 8 km and 3 - 4 hours, therefore not suitable for children under 6 years. The route profile requires a good level of fitness.
You can bring your dog if it is well behaved and has no problem with people or other dogs. In the forest, dogs must be kept on a lead and the forest administration requires them to be kept on the trail. Depending on other participants, you may have to keep a greater distance.
