The GewandhausChor is closely linked to the Gewandhausorchester in its history
and can look back on a tradition of more than 150 years. Famous
conductors have worked together with the orchestra, including the current
the current Thomaskantor and Gewandhauskapellmeister - most recently Herbert Blomstedt,
Riccardo Chailly and Andris Nelsons. Since the
2007/2008 season is in the hands of Gregor Meyer.
The ensemble's repertoire is varied and requires a flexible voice and the willingness to
willingness to engage with new programmatic approaches time and again.
Highlights of the choir's work include concert tours abroad - most recently to Switzerland,
the Vatican, the Lucerne Festival, the BBC Proms, the Vienna Musikverein, the
Gustav Mahler Music Weeks in Toblach, India and Vietnam.
