Special exhibition until November 2025 at the Schliemann Museum Ankershagen
The special exhibition focuses on sculptural works made of wood, the preferred material of the artist Lars Piolka. Since the beginning of his artistic career, wood has been the central medium of his work. The grown structure and individual texture of the material form the basis for Piolka's expressive, spatial objects.
The works thematize movement in various dimensions: Some works look like snapshots of a dynamic rotation, others deal with the phenomenon of movement through sawing interventions and clear lines. In addition to the sculptural work, Piolka's graphic works can also be seen, in which he deals with depictions of nature - partly figurative, partly abstract.
Discover Lars Piolka's impressive woodwork at the Schliemann Museum - an exciting look at form, movement and material. A visit to the exhibition is included in the regular admission price for the museum.
About the artist:
Lars Piolka was born on November 26, 1968 in Erfurt and now lives as a freelance wood designer. After an apprenticeship as a wooden toy maker in Olbernhau, he completed various courses of study in wood design and sculpture - including at the College of Applied Arts in Schneeberg and at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam.
Lars Piolka has been working as a freelancer since 1994 and founded the company piolka holzgestaltung GbR in 1996. His work includes playground and exhibition design as well as free artistic design.
The artist has also helped shape the design of the Schliemann Museum Ankershagen: the design of Heinrich Schliemann's former children's room, which is located on the upper floor of the museum, comes from his workshop, as does the adventure playground with the impressive bireme, which was opened in the museum park in 2024.
