The Black Mountains near Grünz are known nationwide as a semi-open area for numerous endangered animal and plant species. The area has been freely accessible again since reunification.
Sheep grazing is used in an attempt to preserve the semi-open character of this historic cultural landscape. Nutrient-poor, calcareous, sandy and at the same time warm locations form the breeding ground for an enormous variety of species.
The hike leads right across the area and at the same time reveals a magnificent view over the Randowtal at the highest points.
