TANZ im FILM / Documentary film D 2022 / Director: Florian Heinzen-Ziob
With music by Igor Stravinsky and Christoph Willibald Gluck
The documentary celebrates the art of the legendary choreographer Pina Bausch, whose work continues to serve as a source of inspiration for a new generation of dancers. The starting point for the examination of Pina Bausch's work are two places that could hardly be more different: The Semperoper in Dresden and the École des Sables in a fishing village near Dakar in Senegal. At both locations, projects by the Pina Bausch Foundation are shown in which dancers from all over the world rediscover Pina Bausch's choreographies under the guidance of former dancers from her company. The aim is not to copy a work, but rather for the dancers to develop and experience the choreographies with their bodies and their stories. The result is an exciting interplay of mutual influence when dancers from styles as diverse as street dance, classical ballet and traditional African dance engage with Pina Bausch's work.
The film makes the universal power of dance visible and sheds light on the legacy of one of the most influential figures in international dance
