Almost any creature festooned with scales is found populating the Baltic Sea, the Bodden waters, the lagoons and the crystal-clear lakes and rivers. A glance at our calendar with the biting times for important target fish will tell you when the best chances are to fish for pike and others.
Freshwater fish: lakes and rivers, abundant with fish
The confluence of the Trebel, Lake Tollense and the river Peene is known to be one of Germany's best fishing grounds for freshwater fish. 35 species have already been identified here close to Demmin. Holidaymakers have bagged several ten-kilogramme pike from Lake Plau and some of the other expansive lakes. Inhabitants of the depths, vendance can be caught in Lake Schmaler Luzin and Lake Tollense.

Salt water fish: a unique variety along the coast and in the Bodden
Provided the ice has melted, the fishing season along the Baltic Sea begins in February with the hunt for sea trout. Huge schools of herring travel to the coast to spawn from March onward. Even inexperienced fishers will bag them in the cold high tides. Then it is high season for salmon trolling as well. Competitive fishing for garfish begins along the beaches, piers and jetties in April. Plaice and crucian carp are coveted prizes in May. The two-month close season for pike in the Bodden waters ends in May and the hunting season for the very big fish begins.
