Provided the ice has melted, the fishing season along the Baltic Sea begins in February with the hunt for sea trout. Huge schools of herring travel to the coast to spawn from March onward. Even inexperienced fishers will bag them in the cold high tides. Then it is high season for salmon trolling as well. Competitive fishing for garfish begins along the beaches, piers and jetties in April. Plaice and crucian carp are coveted prizes in May. The two-month close season for pike in the Bodden waters ends in May and the hunting season for the very big fish begins.
