Zoos, animal parks and enclosures, family-friendly, barrier-free, sustainable

At Rostock Zoo, the best zoo in Europe, experience 4,200 animals in 430 different species from all over the world in just one day. In the DARWINEUM, you will embark on a spectacular journey through evolution. The heart of the living museum beats in the Tropical Hall - home to the gorillas and orangutans. Open daily from 9 a.m.

Headlong into adventure and dive with penguins - past wondrous jellyfish and you're right in the middle of an expedition across five continents. In a race with cheetahs and climbing orangutans, you'll go from the tropics to deserts and forests to the polar ice to the persistent polar bears. At Rostock Zoo, you'll go on a ramble and encounter 4,200 animals and 430 different species from around the world. The animal diversity ranges from tiny leaf-cutter ants to lively meerkats to stately gorillas and polar bears. The species-appropriate facilities are embedded in an extensive park landscape and give you the opportunity to experience the zoo inhabitants in a near-natural environment.

In the living museums, the animal inhabitants take you on a journey of knowledge about the multi-layered and varied natural environments of this earth.

In the Darwineum , the adventure of evolution can be experienced up close as you embark on an interactive journey through time to the origin of life. One of Europe's largest jellyfish gyroscopes, a colorful coral reef, living fossils and much more await you in various themed booths. The heart of the Darwineum beats in the large tropical hall, where you will roam the world of the great apes: Gorillas and orangutans live here in peaceful company with brazzamere cats, white-handed gibbons, sloths and zebrafish. Via high stands, suspension bridges and winding paths, you can get as close to the animals in Rostock's jungle as is rarely possible in nature.

In the Polarium , you will then go on a voyage of discovery from pole to pole. The expedition begins at the southern polar circle, where the swimming and diving Humboldt penguins show you the way. In the inhospitable regions of the Arctic, you will encounter the largest land predator in the world. The polar bear and its amazingly diverse habitat are explored in more detail at the multimedia visitor center. You will encounter the king of the Arctic with all your senses as he swims through the cool water or sniffs the tundra. Finally, in the marine worlds of the Polarium, it's time to dive back in with octopus, moray eels and jellyfish.

In addition to the animal encounters, a multitude of botanical treasures await you at Rostock Zoo with its 120-year history. A symphony of colors in the dahlia quarter, magical blossoms in the listed rhododendron grove, exotic plants in the Darwineum and the imposing oak avenue - let yourself be enchanted by the green side of the zoo.

The best zoo in Europe

In addition, the zoo has been awarded the "Family Friendly Facility" seal of approval several times. At our experience stations and playgrounds, visitors young and old have the opportunity to try things out and let off steam.
