Bastorf lighthouse, © VMO, Alexander Rudolph
Historical Buildings, Viewpoints, Lighthouses

This headland has a ground elevation of about 78 m above sea level. The structural height of the red brick tower is 20.8 m, which results in a height of fire of 95.3 m. Thus this lighthouse is the highest situated beacon, which can be found at the German coastal waters.

For seafaring an important and necessary navigation aid, it offers the lighthouse visitor, after climbing the 55 steps - a completely different yet beautiful view of the surroundings. If you look in a northeasterly direction, you can see Rostock and Warnemünde. A view to the west shows Rerik and the Wismar Bay with its elongated sandbank "Hannibal". On a clear day you can see to the island of Fehmarn (45 km as the crow flies) and sometimes even some Danish islands.

After the descent, it is worth visiting the café "Valentins" right next to the lighthouse, where visitors can enjoy the view over homemade cakes and hot sea buckthorn juice, among other things. Less than a ten-minute walk away is the Bastorf estate, which advertises a relaxing vacation on the Baltic coast with vacation apartments and wellness facilities.

The lighthouse is open year-round, usually from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and even until 5:00 pm during the summer months.
