The church was built in the 17th century, probably in place of an earlier building, from fieldstone mixed with brick and an eastern half-timbered gable on an almost square ground plan. The western gable was renewed around 1900. The church has three segmental arched windows in each of the long sides and two relatively small ones in the east wall.

The semicircular stables, the orangery, the tea house and the church also date from this period. Around 1810, the castle was again extended by two wings. Since 2016, it has been renovated in accordance with the preservation order. The 1000-year-old Ivenack oaks in the former animal park are Germany's first national natural monument.
