Stages in the life of the great novelist Ehm Welk between 1936 and 1966. Heidi Greßmann reads and tells the story of the years in the life of the novelist Ehm Welk, which began with the successful title "Die Heiden von Kummerow".
On August 29, exactly 140 years ago, the future famous novelist Ehm Welk was born in Biesenbrow in the quarry behind the mountain near Angermünde in Pomerania.
His editorial "Mr. Reich Minister, a word please!" in 1934 marked the end of his stellar career as one of the greats of German journalism in the Oranienburg concentration camp. This biography, so rich in ruptures, as well as the work that grew out of it, provokes many questions that literary studies have not yet addressed.
The audience is not only made aware of the times in which Welk lived, but is also given the impression of an often very contradictory way of life, which awakens interest in the great humanist Ehm Welk.
It was not only with his novel "Die Heiden von Kummerow", which has been translated into many languages, that Ehm Welk created a lasting monument to literature.
Heidi Greßmann reads and tells of the life of the writer and filmmaker Ehm Welk from 1936, when Welk, aged 52, conquered literature, until his death in 1966, whose mission in life was "to bring justice to the earthly things of life. Justice for humans and animals alike".
