"The wren"
The wren
In this production based on a Brandenburg fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm collection, it is finally revealed how one of the smallest European birds got its name and why the birds wanted to choose a king.
A duck and a lapwing quarrel in the forest over a stovepipe. The duck wants to get it onto the scrap heap, the lapwing wants to live in it. Their screaming wakes up the eagle owl, who finally wants the king to decide the dispute.
The eagle owl then calls all the birds together to choose a king. But how do you choose a king? The king should be the one who can fly the highest.
When the eagle thinks he has already won, a small bird flies out of his pocket high up in the air and flies even higher than the eagle. But the duck and the chicken don't want such a little bird to be king, and a wild chase begins until the little bird hides in a mouse hole under a fence and doesn't want to come out again. "This shall be my castle! From now on, call me the wren!" he shouts out. But when his pursuers call for help, the new king flees. But it is only when the angry duck stumbles over the stovepipe that he realizes that the dispute over the stovepipe has not been settled.
