Guided tours of the castle, park and production facilities are offered, including horse-drawn carriage rides through the vineyards. An eclectic mix of stories, history and (wine) culture awaits you. The MidsummerRemise offers insights behind the facades of the listed castle and 'Alte Kellerei' as well as discussions with people who have breathed new 'wine culture' life into this place - always accompanied by wine and tasty treats, coffee and cake in Rattey Castle. PROGRAM
RATTEY CASTLE The first documented mention of Rattey on June 24, 1298 goes back to Margrave Albrecht of Brandenburg through a donation to Wanzka Monastery. From 1320 until the 18th century, Rattey was owned by the Pomeranian von Manteuffel family - foundation stones in the castle bear witness to the original fortified tower from the 14th century. From 1804 to 1806, Hans-Christoph von Oertzen built the neoclassical, straight-lined manor house. Rattey became particularly important for Mecklenburg's social history in 1851 when Adolph and Bertha von Oertzen, née von Pentz, founded the Bethanien and Bethlehem rescue home as an educational institution for neglected boys and girls. Bertha's mother, Bertha Countess von Truchseß-Waldburg, served as lady-in-waiting to Queen Luise in the Prussian royal household. The manor house remained in the possession of the von Oertzen family until 1945. Hans-Ulrich von Oertzen fought in the resistance on June 20, 1944 and avoided arrest by committing suicide. Until reunification, Rattey Castle was used in a variety of ways, including as a post office, supermarket, theater and youth club. Official weddings were performed and an LPG kitchen was housed. A complete restoration was carried out between 1996 and 1998 for the hotel, which opened in 1999.
WINE CULTURE The first vineyard was planted by the Rattey Private Winegrowers' Association in 1999, marking the beginning of the renaissance of viticulture in northern Germany. From the middle of the 13th century to the beginning of the 20th century, wine was already being grown in various places in Mecklenburg. It is thanks to the perseverance and commitment of the winegrowers of Rattey and Burg Stargard that Mecklenburger Landwein was legally approved in 2004. With their pioneering work, the private winegrowers laid the foundation for Rattey to develop into a center of North German viticulture. Today, the Stargarder Land is the northernmost contiguous wine-growing region in Germany.
TODAY The Hotel & Winery Schloss Rattey hosts guests all year round and is available for functions, weddings, events and conferences. The hotel rooms are used for private overnight stays by vacationers seeking peace and quiet as well as by business travelers. Rattey Castle offers 15 spacious rooms and suites, while the modern WeinWerk building has a further 36 hotel rooms. All Schloss Rattey wines, the home-brewed beer 'Brohmer Landbräu', the natural and healthy products of our natural manufactory Inselmühle Usedom as well as other high-quality, regional products such as the gourmet manufactory Gut Klepelshagen can be tasted and purchased in the farm store 'Alte Kellerei' with café.
