literary-musical program with Ursula Kurze (guitar, singing, recitation)

Kurt Tucholsky (1890-1935) was one of the most widely read authors during the Weimar Republic. His literary and journalistic work is still well-known, and many of his statements are still relevant today.

Throughout his life, the socially critical satirist, cabaret and novelist, songwriter, poet and literary, music and film critic warned against the strengthening of the political right in politics, the military and the judiciary and against the threat of National Socialism. After the transfer of power, the National Socialists banned the left-liberal "Weltbühne" in 1933, burned Tucholsky's books and revoked his German citizenship. Tucholsky went into exile in Sweden.

Ursula Kurze creates a musical and literary portrait of Kurt Tucholsky. She will read from his works, tell stories about the poet's life, sing poems in her own settings and play virtuoso guitar music. Current references from Tucholsky's life and work to topics such as homeland, exile, militarism and social injustice will be made. Many of his best-known poems have found their rightful place in the program in Ursula Kurze's touching settings.

Ursula Kurze grew up in Cottbus, where she received her first musical training. This was followed by studies at the University of Music in Weimar, where she majored in concert guitar, and in Leipzig and Freiburg i. Br. in singing and acting. She now lives in Dresden as a guitarist, singer, actress and composer.
