A special presentation of selected works by the late artist Klaus Ender is on show at the Bergen auf Rügen City Museum.
Gabriela Ender and Marika Emonds are curating a special presentation of selected works by the late artist Klaus Ender (1939-2021) at the Bergen auf Rügen City Museum to mark his 85th birthday. The special exhibition "Klaus Ender - Where word and image go hand in hand..." shows a cross-section of his extraordinary life's work from June 10 to Sept. 20, 2024. It includes pictures in the genres of nature, landscape and nude. There is also a corresponding emphasis on his sensitive word poetry.
The slogan "Where word and image go hand in hand" stands for Klaus Ender in particular. The nude and nature photographer (re)discovered his second passion in 2002 and wrote poems and aphorisms. He discovered his love of nature as a child and his love of photography as a teenager. His fascination for this medium was to accompany him throughout his life.
Klaus Ender first became known to a wide audience through his nude photographs in "Das Magazin" and other magazines. Aesthetics and natural sensuality were his maxims. His pictures are characterized by a fascination with the female body, without voyeurism and with poetic beauty. They look like a snapshot and yet are timeless.
Landscape and nature photography was always an equal part of his work. He saw a fulfilled life not in wealth, but in harmony with nature. Nature was a source of strength and inspiration for him. The photographer's great passion was beauty in detail, playing with sharpness/blurriness, reflections in dew, reflections... He had always been fascinated by the German language. His poems have depth and tell of the many ways to make life more meaningful. They are often a homage to nature. The thinker was particularly devoted to aphorism - rhetorically appealing and with philosophical meaning.
Klaus Ender wanted to touch people, delight them, move them and make them think. In an age in which the quiet tones are becoming less and less, the free spirit met them with poetry. But he soon followed this up with admonishing texts, calling for a rethink in the way we treat nature, which earned him more enemies than friends. He remained true to his motto: it is better to fly the flag than to strike sail.
Today, Klaus Ender is one of the most important German nude photographers. He was an excellent nature photographer and a wonderful philosopher.
