Axel Milberg immerses himself in Thomas Mann's stories and novels. Accompanied by music from Thomas Mann's time
"Farewell and Departure" - On the 150th birthday of Thomas Mann
Axel Milberg, recitation
Annegret Klenke, violin,
Beate Hartmann, violin,
Yvonne Uhlemann, viola,
Ruth Kaltenhäuser - violoncello
He was called "The Magician" by his large family.
We have known Buddenbrooks, The Magic Mountain and Death in Venice since our school days. Really? He had a deep interest in music and was friends with many great composers, exile separated them
or brought them closer together, quite a few even appear as figures in his work.
The Klenke Quartet and Axel Milberg combine Thomas Mann's work with the music of his time in the compositions of Engelbert Humperdinck, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Theodor W. Adorno and Antonin Dvorak.
These are farewells and new beginnings, both musically and literarily.
But it is also a departure into a new world, so this music and the works of Thomas Mann are surprisingly close to us again today.
