On the 150th birthday of Thomas Mann
Loosely based on Thomas Mann's novel, successful director Kurt Hoffmann tells the life story of a charming and lovable cheat and philanderer. The 1957 film starred well-known actors such as Horst Buchholz, Liselotte Pulver, Susi Nicoletti and Paul Dahlke and won several awards. Thomas Mann's daughter Erika co-wrote the screenplay and also accompanied the filming. It is one of the best German films of the 1950s.
