Charity concert
They come from the Galilee and are making a stop at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival during their European tour: 35 young Israeli musicians of Arab and Jewish origin who together form the Galilee Chamber Orchestra. The conductor and Beethoven specialist pianist Saleem Ashkar founded the orchestra together with his brother Nabeel in their home town of Nazareth in 2012. The organization Polyphony, a foundation for musical education and bridge builder between Jewish and Arab communities in Israel, took over the sponsorship. This foundation is no stranger to Neubrandenburg: As a twin city of Nazareth, the four-gate city has already sent young musicians to Polyphony College concerts. Over the years, the Galilee Chamber Orchestra has grown into a professional ensemble and fills concert halls all over the world. It will be performing at the Festival Summer with violinist and Festival Prize winner Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider. The orchestra's founder, Saleem Ashkar, is the musical director. With the means of their art, the orchestra members always bring the different worlds a little closer together. On this evening, works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn Bartholdy will be performed alongside a composition by the Israeli-Arab musician Nizar Elkhater, who is also known in Germany as a pianist.
The proceeds from the concert will go to charitable organizations that promote understanding between Jews and Arabs.
With the kind support of the City of Neubrandenburg, Neubrandenburger Stadtwerke GmbH, Sparkasse Neubrandenburg-Demmin and Neubrandenburger Wohnungsgesellschaft mbH
