In the book "Ein Jahrhundertleben - Tante Dora und die Blaudows", Heike Bretschneider recounts the life of her great-aunt, an admirably courageous, brave and straightforward woman.
Dorothea Blaudow (1893-1991) was born in Stralsund during the German Empire. She suffered and experienced almost a hundred years of German history and always kept a watchful, critical eye. The two world wars took away the people dearest to her, her fiancé Walther and three of her nephews. A passionate democrat, she never voted for Hitler; any dictatorship, whether National Socialist or Communist, was abhorrent to her. As a young teacher, she came to Zingst School in 1926 and taught there for 21 years with dedication and joy. Zingst became her real home. There she fulfilled a dream and created a vacation paradise for herself and her family from East and West.
After the reading, there will be an opportunity to talk to the author. Dr. Andreas Neumerkel from the Stralsunder Geschichtsverein e.V. will also provide an insight into the circumstances in Stralsund at the time of the German Empire and shed light on the historical development of the remaining Blaudows in Stralsund.
