A special exhibition by the Otto von Bismarck Foundation at the Schliemann Museum Ankershagen
The Imperial Chancellor and Prussian Prime Minister Otto von Bismarck (1815 - 1898) was a contemporary of Heinrich Schliemann and was in contact with him. Even though Schliemann was not involved in politics, he nevertheless took a keen interest in it. With this special exhibition, the Schliemann Museum presents Bismarck, a controversial figure, and his work.
In addition to his biography, central aspects of his politics are illuminated. His origins, his career from landowner to diplomat as well as key political events and decisions are shown. These include the constitutional conflict of the 1860s, the so-called wars of unification and the founding of the empire, foreign and colonial policy as well as his domestic actions against social democracy, political Catholicism and minorities. The social reforms that still form the foundation of our social policy today are also shown. The picture is rounded off with a look at the Bismarck myth.
