Although Caspar David Friedrich was a native of Pomerania, he spent the majority of his life (more than 40 years) in Dresden, his adopted home. Nevertheless, he always returned to Greifswald and the Pomeranian region. He was also something of a wanderer between the worlds: the different mentalities that could not be more different between Pomerania and Saxony.
