Old Harbour of Wismar

Since 1211, the Old Harbour has largely preserved its harbour basin in its location and design. Moreover, the harbour continues to be important as a mooring for excursion steamers, for leisure captains and traditional ships such as the 'Kogge' and the 'Atalanta'.

The port, shipping and trade in Wismar grow rapidly - important goods are handled: wines from Spain, Italy and France, furs and wood from Russia, skins from Norway, also cloth, silk and wool, but above all fish and spices, wax, malt and salt. Trade across the Baltic Sea and inland is flourishing. The bloom of the Hanseatic League begins and Wismar becomes a prosperous city.

Wismar, the Beautiful and Mighty, acquires its rank as an important city in the Hanseatic League.

Cruise ships can be admired from the quay edge.

Every year at the beginning of June the Wismar Harbour Festival takes place here as well.
