Theatres, Horse riding, family-friendly, holidays in the countryside

The Horse Theater is a project in honor of horses. It contributes to the representation of the horse in its history and in the present and not to let it degenerate to a mere breeding object, sport and luxury equipment or to a sensational circus attraction.

The regular events of the Horse Theater therefore include public training work with horses, creative theater productions and educational performances for children & young people.

Elegance and wildness, dynamism and calm, pride and timidity, strength and dancing lightness - these are the characteristics that we commonly ascribe to the horse and that its rider has always made use of in dealing with it.

The regular events of the Horse Theater therefore include public training work with horses, creative theater productions and educational performances for children & young people. All dates and events can be found on the Horse Theater homepage at www.pferdetheater.com or on social platforms such as Facebook or Instagram.

Since ancient times until well into the 20th century, the horse has played a significant role in history: It served military and martial purposes, was the most important means of transport and, until the beginning of the last century, the most important means of transport of all. In addition, due to its majestic appearance, the horse has always had that special glamor that enchants and captivates the spectator.

This admiration, which the horse experiences more and more especially in modern times, seems to have been earned over centuries. Nevertheless, today - more than ever - the horse appears as a mute, powerless observer, at the mercy of events, indifferent to our ever faster changing society. What seems to have remained of its former glory are its metaphorical qualities, its cultural significance, its mythical aura, which still endure in the present.

Against this background, the idiosyncratic productions of horse and theater man Leon Vermeulen can always be understood as a homage to the horse and its culture. In the performances, the horse is thus presented in a variety of ways and staged in conjunction with diverse artistic means of design and media.

After the Belgian founded the horse theater in 2001 on the Island of Usedom, he was initially drawn to the capital, where he has staged various performances since 2013. Since June 2017, there is now another venue on the Island of Rügen, located between the Baltic resort Binz and Putbus, where artistic, multimedia events around the horse are regularly performed. The horse theater, which is now also located in Zirkow at Darzer Weg 65a, makes a contribution to presenting the horse in its history and in the present, and at the same time not letting it degenerate into a mere breeding object, sports and luxury equipment or a sensational circus attraction. As a guest, consider your visit to the horse theater from this perspective, enjoy the sight of horses in unusual situations ... and learn from them.
